Here we have another amazing story of creative reuse. Ewaste is growing so why not make something out of it?

That is just what a Taiwanese business person has done. He is building an e-waste recycling center out of real e-waste, “trash and recycled materials.”

His building is one hour north of Taipei by car. Its sole purpose is E-waste recycling. Its walls are constructed with glass fiber from recycled circuit boards. Its ceilings are constructed from used DVD’s and CD’s.

Taking It to the Next Level

According to the article: “We want to take recycling to the next level,“ Arthur Huang told BBC News in a recent interview. Huang is the founder of Miniwiz, a firm dedicated to sustainable building practices”

And: “Not only will this factory do the usual e-waste recycling, extracting gold and copper from your discarded computers and smartphones, but it will be built completely out of recycled materials,” Huang says.

Because Taiwan is a relatively small island which is 70 percent mountainous so depositing e-waste into landfills does not make sense.

Zero Landfill Policy

Taiwan has had a “zero landfill policy” since 2010 and is touting the green sustainable way to handling e-waste.

“The e-waste factory is the most recent project, and we are also working on an eco-theatre in Shanghai – we will build it out of post-consumer waste, re-bonding it on nano level to create very strong materials,” Huang told BBC News.”

“The new facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.”
